Welcome to all our Year 1 families, we are really looking forward to working with you this year!

You will find all the information you need about Class 1's learning on Class Dojo; we will post half termly newsletters and information about new aspects of your child's learning as the year progresses.

  • Please send your child with a water bottle, coat and book bag (with reading book and reading record) everyday.
  • New reading books will be sent home every Wednesday.
  • Children should come dressed for PE on Mondays with hair tied up and earrings taken out.
  •

Although your child will be taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home. This year we will continue the same routine followed by Reception and will send a new Little Wandle reading book home after completing 3 different reading sessions on the text.  Please make sure your child's book is returned as we will need them to read with other groups of children the following week.

As in Reception class, the book brought home will be closely matched to the correct phonics stage for your child. Your child should be able their book fluently and independently after having read the text three times at school in their reading practice lessons.

After reading the book three times at school, your child should be ready to 'perform'  reading the book to you at home with a good level of fluency, some expression in their voice and with a good understanding of the text.  Please listen to your child read the book and remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After they have finished, talk about the book together.
